Rep. Chris Shays, R-4th, the last of House Republicans in New England, is one of only two Republicans to be charter members of a new congressional caucus focused on equality for gays and lesbians.
The LGBT Equality Caucus is chaired by two openly gay lawmakers, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Barney Frank of Massachusetts. Baldwin says it was important to have the two Republicans among the 52 charter members.
We have to have the most effective communication possible with both sides. Our Republican charter members will be great at educating and being role models for their side of the aisle.
The other Connecticut rep to sign up is Rosa DeLauro, D-3rd District.
